- Accessibility Statement
The University of Leeds is committed to making its digital estate accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at University of Leeds are courses designed for working professionals looking to expand their knowledge, develop practical skills and enhance their career prospects through flexible learning opportunities.
This statement applies to accessibility within the CPD at Leeds system itself, and does not cover uploaded course content. Additional relevant information may be highlighted in course-specific accessibility statements within course areas.
Compliance status
CPD at Leeds is compliant and has been designed and developed in accordance with the internationally standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standard, excluding the non-compliances listed below.
Accessibility within CPD at Leeds
CPD at Leeds supports the use of screen readers, keyboard and swipe navigation, and speech recognition software across a range of commonly-used browser and assistive technologies.
Non-accessible Content
Areas of non-compliance
Non-Text Content
Several alternative image descriptions such as in Feature Courses, Progress Indicators and logo images provide no information or functionality and should be marked as decorative. This fails success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A).
Info and Relationships
Headings lack consistent visual presentation. Within the Marketplace, appropriate headings are missing from tab titles and accordion menus, while headings are used to visually format non-heading text. Staff creating content within the Brightspace Editor must use the Source Code view to review information about text styles and heading levels while editing content. These fail success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A).
Colour Contrast
Contrast is below minimum standards for video upload and "Learn more" status messages, as well as within the "Feature Courses" background. This fails success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Level AA).
Reflow
Reflow issues are present within some course pages with mobile screen sizes. This fails success criterion 1.4.10 Reflow (Level AA).
Timing Adjustable
Sessions time out without a warning or an opportunity to extend, occurring after 2 hours of inactivity. Screen reader users may wish to refresh their browser tab after an extended period away from the page to avoid this issue. This fails success criteria 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable (Level A) and 4.1.3 Status Messages (Level AA).
Focus Not Obscured
Narrow windows such as on mobile devices will cause focus to move out of view when navigating expanded menus. Also, floating menus do not close when moving to new tabs, causing focus to be obscured when navigating backwards. This fails success criterion 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Level AA).
Label In Name
Accordion menu open controls have identical accessible names when there are multiple menus within the same page. These names also do not match the visible text label. This fails success criterion 2.5.3 Label In Name (Level A)
Predictable on Input
Focus changes unpredictably following some page interactions, such as navigating to different course pages or closing full-screen view resetting focus to the top of the screen instead of its previous location. This fails success criterion 3.2.2 On Input (Level A) and 2.4.3 Focus Order (Level A).
Consistent Identification
Icons are not consistent throughout navigation, requiring users to attempt to interpret new icons without clear labeling. The vendor reports that “users may combine concepts they already understand to interpret new icons” though we do not consider this sufficient to meet this criterion. This fails success criterion 3.2.4 Consistent Identification (Level AA).
Labels or Instructions
Matching question types do not programatically link numbering methodology with selections, meaning users must memorise question and answer options without meaningful identifying labels. This fails success criterion 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (Level A).
Status Messages
The number of courses returned by search results is updated on the screen but is not read by assistive technology. This fails success criterion 4.1.3 Status Messages (Level AA).
What we are doing about known issues
University of Leeds is committed to improving accessibility across all our sites. Where issues are identified we will work to warn users and provide alternatives, while working with our vendors to enact continuous improvements. Web accessibility statements are developed through testing within the Digital Education in collaboration with University IT and reviewed annually.
Preparation of this Accessibility Statement
This statement was prepared on 2nd October 2026. Based on documentation provided by the vendor alongside local testing.
Manual, automated, and guided testing was undertaken in September 2026 on Windows 11, using NVDA screen reader and browser tools and extensions within Google Chrome.
